Rogue came to use from the Bell County Animal Shelter, and while we thought she only had a cyst, Dr Miller found a heart murmur, ovarian disease, and a benign skin mass. We estimate she is 4-5 years old.
Rogue’s heart murmur could be due to structural heart disease or maybe due to stress. The murmur increases her anesthetic risk. She has a 1-inch abdominal mass just south of her left kidney, which is almost certainly a diseased ovary. Given that Rogue was a shelter pig, is middle-aged to older, has a heart murmur, and has ovarian disease, Dr Miller recommends that we monitor the mass instead of removing it.
Rogue requires Cystorelin injections, which can reduce estrogen secretion by the ovary but it will not make the ovary smaller. And she gets meloxicam daily for pain management.
